Kantha Vintage Patchwork Quilt 100% Indian Cotton Hand Block Printed in Indigo Tones
Think of a time when things were handmade to last and be passed down from generation to generation. These Kantha Vintage Patchwork Quilts are the epitomy of artisanship and craftwork unchanged for generations. They are still made the same way as they were centuries ago. Which makes them our most coveted item that often stops customers in their tracks.
When we are sourcing these exotic treasures, we are often told that this timeless process cannot be rushed. Respecting tradition is paramount and we agree you can't rush this kind of creativity and artisanship and there will be only a limited amount of stock available. So be in quick!
These one of a kind quilts are handcrafted art and are so striking, we often have long waiting lists to buy. Vintage swatches are hand selected for their tonal colour integrity and stitched together using a Gudri running knot. Each design is created by women artisans in the desert villages of Rajhistan, in between leading their daily lives caring for their families and tending the herds. Each piece can be months in the making.
Your Kantha is created in similar blue colour tones. There are unique fabric variations and unlike machine made products they fade naturally and imperfections are part of their beauty and individuality. Our artists print using hand-carved wood blocks with natural vegetable dyes and 100% Indian cotton.
Dust or wipe clean with a cloth dampened with water once a week. Be sure not to leave water spots on the surface. These water spots will dry and could possibly leave permanent marks.
Clean stains/spots using the following steps: Dampen a soft cloth with a mixture of hot water and liquid dishwashing detergent. Wring the cloth as much as possible to remove excess liquid. Rub the surface lightly in a circular motion. Dry the surface immediately with a clean, soft towel.
